Zusammenfassung

ETH Zürich invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral position to model the evolution of early prokaryotes and their interaction with Earth's geodynamics. The project brings together biology, geodynamics, climate and Earth-system science to understand metabolic transitions and planetary habitability.

You will develop interdisciplinary models, work with high-performance computing, and disseminate findings through publications and conferences.

Qualifikationen

  • PhD in geobiology, biogeochemistry, Earth sciences, geodynamics, planetary science, computational biology, or a closely related field.
  • Strong interdisciplinary experience.
  • Experience with quantitative research, computational modeling, or data analysis.
  • Ability to work independently to formulate questions and design analyses.
  • Experience in geophysical/geochemical modeling or bioenergetics, ecology.
  • Strong programming and data-analysis skills in Python, R, MATLAB, Julia or similar.
  • Ability to communicate in English clearly.
  • Collaborative mindset across disciplines.

Aufgaben

  • Develop interdisciplinary research on early prokaryotic life evolution within geodynamics and climate context.
  • Build models of autotrophs/heterotrophs and metabolic communities.
  • Investigate carbon/nutrient cycling and atmospheric evolution during the Archean.
  • Use geodynamic simulations to constrain planetary conditions and metabolic transitions.
  • Publish results and present at international conferences.
