ETH Zurich invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to study interiors and long-term evolution of sub-Neptunes within the Exoplanet Interiors and Atmospheres group led by Prof. Caroline Dorn.

The appointment is embedded in the NCCR Genesis network and runs for two years with potential extension to a third year. The position emphasizes developing atmosphere-interior evolution models, linking results to observations, and contributing to a cross-disciplinary research program spanning

Qualifikationen

  • PhD completed by start date in a related field.
  • Strong scientific programming in Python; experience with Git.
  • Fluent, critical use of AI-assisted tools in research and code development.
  • Fortran is useful but not a requirement.
  • Experience in planetary interior or structure modelling, thermal evolution, high-pressure EOS, atmospheric modelling, magma-ocean chemistry, or statistical inference.
  • Independence, curiosity, and ability to work across disciplinary boundaries.

Aufgaben

  • Improve atmosphere-interior evolution models tailored to sub-Neptunes.
  • Investigate how interior mixing imprints on observable atmosphere.
  • Link modelling results to spectroscopically observed atmospheres.
  • Build frameworks to analyse populations of observed sub-Neptunes to test formation hypotheses.
