Job summary

The Sustainability Research Group at the University of Basel seeks a PhD candidate to study societal dimensions of AI-enabled energy sharing within energy communities. The PhD will develop and apply a Societal Readiness Framework integrating social, institutional, and regulatory aspects into AI-based energy-sharing tools.

Research uses surveys, interviews, and workshops to examine attitudes, trust, fairness, and participation across Europe; close collaboration with developers and community

Qualifications

• MSc/MA in social sciences or related field with a sustainability focus.
• Experience with empirical research methods and statistical analysis.
• Proficiency in English with strong writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to development and implementation of a Societal Readiness Framework (SRF).
• Investigate psychological, socio-economic and social factors influencing uptake of AI-enabled energy sharing.
• Conduct quota-representative surveys, semi-structured interviews, and participatory workshops; collaborate with stakeholders.

Education

Master's degree in social sciences or related field

Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills

Experience with surveys, interviews and workshops

Excellent analytical and academic writing
