Job summary

The Sustainability Research Group at the University of Basel seeks a PhD candidate to explore the societal dimensions of AI-enabled energy sharing within energy communities. The position is part of the Horizon Europe project FAIR4COMMUNITIES and aims to develop socially acceptable, user-centered AI tools and policies.

The candidate will lead SRF development, conduct national surveys and interviews, and collaborate with SSH and technical partners across Europe.

Qualifications

• PhD candidate requires MSc/MA in social sciences, psychology, or related field.
• Strong quantitative research skills and experience with surveys.
• Qualitative skills including interviews, workshops and thematic analysis are desirable.
• Experience with participatory research and co-design is desirable.
• Excellent communication with diverse stakeholders is essential.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a Societal Readiness Framework (SRF).
• Conduct quota-representative surveys and semi-structured interviews.
• Organize participatory workshops to examine attitudes and trust.
• Collaborate with technology developers and Energy Community stakeholders.
• Publish multiple academic papers and contribute to the PhD thesis.
