Zusammenfassung

ETH Zürich’s Professorship of Solid Mechanics (SMEC) invites applications for a doctoral student to investigate how microscopic frictional interactions govern the rheology and macroscopic flow of dense particle suspensions. The project combines physics-based modeling, simulations, and collaboration with experimental partners from the ETH Department of Materials.

You will implement particle-based simulations, analyze results, and work closely with experimental researchers to translate findings

Qualifikationen

• MSc in a relevant field.
• Experience with scientific code and validation/verification.
• Programming in Python and version control.
• Fluent in English (oral and written).
• Interest in modeling and experiments, collaboration with experimentalists.

Aufgaben

• Conduct computational/theoretical investigation of particle-scale frictional interactions on macroscopic suspension flow.
• Link particle-scale mechanics to macroscopic response with physics-based models.
• Implement and use particle-based simulation methods, including coarse-grained molecular dynamics, with verification/validation against data.
• Analyze results to identify mechanisms controlling suspension behavior and collaborate with experimentalists.
• Provide modeling insights and contribute to project goals.
