Zusammenfassung

ETH Zürich is seeking a motivated doctoral student to study solid mechanics and computational modeling, focusing on how local contact interactions in architected materials shape macroscopic interface response. The project combines physics-based numerical modeling, theory, and concepts from rough-surface mechanics.

The position offers an opportunity to work at ETH Zürich in an international team, bridging mechanics, materials science, and applied physics, with a strong emphasis on design

Qualifikationen

  • MSc or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Strong background in mechanics or computational mechanics.
  • Experience implementing scientific code and validating results.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).

Aufgaben

  • Conduct a computational and theoretical investigation of how local contact interactions in architected materials determine macroscopic interface response.
  • Connect cell-scale mechanics with multiscale/rough-surface contact mechanics to describe architected interfaces.
  • Develop and use numerical models of lattice materials to study contact behavior.
  • Analyze how architecture, material properties and length scales influence contact area, pressure distributions, interface stiffness, and load transmission.
