ETH Zurich's Chair for Digital Building Technologies invites applications for a PhD position focused on 3D printing of stone for heritage restoration. The project combines a new powder-bed printer with dual powder and dual liquid feeds, enabling graded composition and porosity in a single part.

The work is part of the ETH Grant project Spatially graded 3D printing to elucidate contour scaling of building stones, with collaboration across departments and international partners.

Qualifikationen

• Master’s degree in architecture or a closely related discipline with substantial design work.
• Experience in digital fabrication and computational design is desirable.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with international partners.

Aufgaben

• Design, build, and commission a laboratory-scale powder-bed printer with dual feeds.
• Produce stone replacement parts for heritage buildings with graded properties.
• Develop tectonic strategies to connect printed parts to existing structures.
• Contribute to deterioration research and disseminate findings at conferences.
• Publish in leading venues and supervise semester and master projects.
