ETH Zürich's Chair for Digital Building Technologies invites applications for a PhD position focused on 3D printing of stone for heritage restoration. The project develops a dual-feed powder-bed printer and graded deposition to create compatible replacement parts for historic structures.

You will design and build the system, collaborate with a materials science group, and publish at leading venues while contributing to teaching. Fluency in English is essential; some German is advantageous.

Qualifikationen

• Master's degree in architecture or a closely related discipline with substantial design work.
• Experience designing and prototyping fabrication equipment and tooling.
• Fluent in English; German knowledge is an advantage.
• Strong communication and collaborative abilities for cross-group work.
• Interest in the behavior of stone and heritage materials.

Aufgaben

• Design, build, and commission a laboratory-scale powder-bed printer with dual feeds.
• Use it to produce stone replacement parts for heritage buildings.
• Develop strategies for connecting printed parts to existing structures with graded features.
• Support partner deterioration research through produced samples.
• Publish in leading venues, present at international conferences, and contribute to teaching.
