About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Desktop Support Specialist (L1) to join our on-demand field support network in Switzerland.
This role is ideal for IT professionals with hands-on experience in desktop support, EUC, field IT support, retail IT, hardware deployment, networking, and onsite troubleshooting.
The engineer will perform onsite installation, decommissioning, device deployment, connectivity checks, troubleshooting, documentation, and coordination with a remote retail/IT support team.
Key Responsibilities
- Uninstall sales-area IT equipment, including tills/MPOs and associated peripherals.
- Create an accurate inventory/list of all devices removed.
- Capture and share required equipment, back-office, and rack-cabinet photographs with the remote retail team via WhatsApp.
- Complete the onsite checklist and obtain the required site sign-off.
- Install Cisco Meraki Router, Switch, and Access Point in the rack cabinet.
- Coordinate with the electrician for ceiling-mounted Access Point installation.
- Connect Meraki equipment to the ISP router and verify network connectivity.
- Connect and organize network equipment and cabling.
- Maintain a clean and properly organized rack cabinet.
- Attach the network blueprint/documentation to the rack cabinet door.
- Install tills and all associated peripheral devices at the sales desk.
- Connect tills, payment terminals, and fiscal printers to the network according to instructions from the remote retail team.
- Assist the remote team with testing and validating the tills.
- Configure a Surface laptop with the store email account.
- Connect and configure the A4 network printer.
- Install the printer on tills and the Surface laptop and perform test prints.
iPad & Retail Device Configuration
- Connect iPads to the store network.
- Configure and test the Click & Collect receipt printer on both iPads.
- Connect Music and Video MIB devices to the network.
- Coordinate with the remote retail team to ensure store music and TV/video services are operational.
- Connect People Counter and CCTV systems to the network.
Documentation & Handover
- Tidy and organize rack-cabinet and sales-desk cabling.
- Take and share all requested installation/completion photographs.
- Complete the onsite checklist accurately.
- Obtain final sign-off from the Store Manager.
- Share the signed checklist and required documentation with the remote retail team before leaving the site.
Required Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in Desktop Support / EUC / Field IT Support.
- Strong hands-on experience with Windows desktop/laptop troubleshooting.
- Experience installing and troubleshooting IT hardware and peripherals.
- Basic-to-intermediate networking knowledge.
- Experience with routers, switches, access points, LAN connectivity and networked devices.
- Familiarity with Cisco Meraki or similar network equipment is highly desirable.
- Experience with POS/tills, payment terminals, fiscal printers, or retail IT environments is an advantage.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 and Windows environments.
- Basic understanding of Active Directory and user/device configuration.
- Ability to follow technical instructions provided by a remote support team.
- Strong troubleshooting and onsite problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working independently at customer/retail sites.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to provide photographs, checklists, and site sign-off as required.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on L1 Desktop/EUC or Field Support Engineer who can confidently work onsite, install and connect IT equipment, troubleshoot connectivity and hardware issues, coordinate with remote technical teams, and complete all required documentation before leaving the site.
