Job summary

Vaxcyte is looking for a Protein Intermediates Sr Bioprocess Engineer to join the MSAT team in Visp, Switzerland. The role supports microbial manufacturing from commercial readiness through PPQ and ongoing production at CMOs, ensuring robust, compliant processes.

The successful candidate will lead fermentation, recovery, and purification activities, oversee CMOs, and drive continuous improvement while maintaining GMP standards and clear technical documentation for regulatory submissions.

Qualifications

• PhD with 8+ years or MSc with 5+ years in Pharma/Biotech process engineering.
• Experience in vaccine manufacturing operations preferred.
• Strong GMP Drug Substance manufacturing knowledge and QA systems.
• Hands-on with bacterial fermentation, product recovery, and purification.
• Deep knowledge of protein-polysaccharide conjugation OR bacterial fermentation, bioreactor systems and process analytics.
• Familiar with unit operations: centrifugation, filtration, chromatography, UF/DF, TFF, precipitation.
• Leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and strong communication.
• Fluency in English mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Oversee GMP manufacture of polysaccharide intermediates with CMOs.
• Ensure commercial readiness, process validation, and campaigns.
• Lead technology transfer, qualification, and late-stage characterization.
• Drive continuous improvement and implement DOE/tech innovations.
• Prepare technical reports and regulatory documents.
• Support inspections and respond to observations.
