Job summary

CERN's Vacuum, Surfaces and Coatings Group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop ultra-high vacuum equipment for LHC experiments. You will work through concept to testing, collaborating with engineers, technicians and specialists in a unique scientific environment.

Responsibilities include CAD modeling, analyses, lab testing, assembly, installation and commissioning of vacuum systems, with a strong focus on precision mechanics and collaboration across disciplines to deliver

Qualifications

  • Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • Nationality of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • Experience in mechanical engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop precision mechanical equipment for ultra-high vacuum applications.
  • Create 3D CAD models and perform analyses.
  • Follow projects through design, prototyping, manufacturing, assembly and testing.
  • Plan and carry out laboratory tests including leak detection and vacuum measurements.
  • Work with CERN workshops, suppliers and technical teams to support production and QC.
  • Install, commission and improve vacuum equipment for LHC experiments.
  • Collaborate across engineering disciplines to deliver reliable solutions.
