Zusammenfassung

CERN is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for Vacuum Technology to design, develop and test ultra-high vacuum equipment used in LHC experiments. You will work on projects from concept to prototyping, simulation and testing, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in a unique scientific environment.

Entry requirements include a Master’s degree with 2–6 years or a PhD with ≤3 years. The position is full-time, onsite in Geneva, with a 24‑month contract and possible extension up to 36 months; salary

Qualifikationen

  • Strong in mechanical design using CAD tools (CATIA/Inventor/SolidWorks).
  • Experience with engineering simulation (ANSYS or similar).
  • Experience with precision mechanics, manufacturing, assembly or testing is expected.
  • Familiarity with vacuum technology or lab environments is preferred but not required.

Aufgaben

  • Design and develop precision mechanical equipment for ultra-high vacuum applications.
  • Create 3D CAD models and perform structural, thermal and modal analyses.
  • Follow projects from design to testing and production.
  • Plan and carry out lab tests including leak detection and vacuum measurements.
  • Collaborate with workshops, suppliers and technical teams for production and QC.
  • Contribute to installation, commissioning and improvement of vacuum equipment for LHC experiments.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to deliver reliable solutions.
