Jobbeschreibung

Agricultural greenhouses are key toward a sustainable food supply, however they have significant energetic needs due to heating and artificial lightening. There is a push from governments, retailers and consumers to reduce carbon footprint of greenhouses. Voltiris enables double-use of large greenhouses surfaces to produce electricity without impacting their high agricultural yield. Voltiris introduces a solar panel design to generate electricity from the part of sunlight's spectrum that is unused for crop growth.

Mechanical Engineer Intern (f/m) - Installation Design and Readiness for Agrivoltaic Projects
Mission

Voltiris is dedicated to reducing the carbon footprint of global food systems by developing innovative solar energy solutions for the agricultural sector. As an award-winning company based in Lausanne, we are expanding our deployment of photovoltaic systems across Europe. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer intern (or working student) to make sure every installation is designed, kitted and validated before our crews leave for site.

Role Overview

The Mechanical Engineer intern is part of the Operations - Installation team and owns installation readiness. Before a crew departs, you verify that the CAD models and the bill of materials match reality, that every part has been kitted and checked, that every tool works, and that the installation sequence has been dry-run or validated on paper. When a crew hits a blocker on site that could have been caught beforehand, closing that gap becomes your next task. You work directly with the installation crews and report to the Director of Installations & Maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Documentation:

  • CAD Modelling: Build and maintain CAD models and drawings for structures, mounts, and site-specific adaptations.

  • Design-to-Reality Control: Catch mismatches early - tolerances, missing brackets, wrong fasteners, incorrect cable lengths - and keep drawings and BOMs traceable.

Pre-Installation Preparation:

  • Checklists: Create and own the pre-installation checklists covering parts, tools, torque specs, sequence, and edge cases.

  • Dry-Runs: Run mock assemblies in our workshop before parts ship to site.

  • Kitting & Logistics: Plan kitting so that a crew never opens a box on site to find something missing.

Field Feedback Loop:

  • Crew Collaboration: Work with the installation crews on site and in the workshop, and feed their feedback back into the CAD models, BOMs and checklists.

Qualifications

Technical Skills:

  • Solid CAD ability (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent) - you can model a part, not only read a drawing.

  • Ability to read technical drawings, mechanical assemblies and basic electrical schematics.

  • Hands-on build experience: you have already built something, a race car, a boat, a robot, a machine - something you physically built, not only simulated.

Profile
  • Planning instinct: you think in checklists, sequences and failure modes before anyone asks you to.

  • Workshop or field exposure - you know a CAD model lies if nobody checks it against the real part.

  • Rigorous and autonomous, comfortable with installation crews as well as engineers.

Education & Languages
  • Engineering student or recent graduate (mechanical, electrical, or systems); EPFL or equivalent.

  • Professional proficiency in English. French, Dutch or Polish is a plus.

  • Valid driver’s licence is an asset.

What We Offer
  • Real Ownership: You own a genuine failure point in our operations - not admin work, and not a desk-only role.

  • Fast Feedback: Your fixes are tested on live installation sites within weeks, not quarters.

  • Direct Exposure: You work hand in hand with the installation crews and directly with the Director of Installations & Maintenance.

Practical Details
  • Location: Lausanne / Vaud area, Switzerland - on-site, with occasional travel to installation sites.

  • Type: Internship or working student position.

Education: Bachelor/Master/PhD. Languages: Englisch (professional)
