Job summary

Lonza, Basel, Switzerland, invites applications for a Manufacturing Transformation Lead (Director level) to translate roadmaps into future manufacturing concepts for Integrated Biologics, Advanced Synthesis and Specialized Modalities.

The role collaborates with Platforms, R&D and Strategic Innovation to define how processes should be manufactured, applying advanced technologies, PAT, automation, and reduced manual intervention, with a focus on unit-cost improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or a related discipline.
• Future Manufacturing Strategy & Concept Development: translate roadmaps into integrated concepts and operating requirements.
• Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing & Process Knowledge: GMP requirements and connection to facility implications.
• Unit-Cost & Manufacturing Economics: diagnose cost drivers and guide pilot priorities.
• End-to-End Manufacturing Systems Thinking: integrate tech, automation, data, and facilities.
• Cross-Functional Pilot Leadership: mobilize multidisciplinary teams across platforms.
• Executive Communication & Influence: communicate complex concepts to senior stakeholders.
• Pilot Governance, Risk & Decision Management: structure hypotheses, risks, and decisions.
• Learning, Replication & Scale-Up: convert pilot learnings into reusable concepts across sites.

Responsibilities

• Align with platform, R&D and innovation roadmaps across all three business platforms.
• Translate scientific and process evolution into manufacturing concepts and operating requirements.
• Identify opportunities from process intensification, PAT, and automation to reduce manual intervention.
• Challenge how future processes can be manufactured more simply and autonomously.
• Drive unit-cost diagnostics and future-state manufacturing design.
• Identify and prioritize process, equipment and operating-model interventions.
• Coordinate matrixed platform, site and functional resources.
• Translate future concepts into equipment, automation, data, and facility requirements.
• Work with enabling technologies for automation and touchless operations.
• Ensure integration of other workstreams into coherent concepts.
• Synchronize requirements with program increments.
