For 70 years, UNICEF has worked on the ground in 190 countries and territories to promote the survival, protection and development of children, young people, and women. UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, clean water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence and exploitation. UNICEF is funded entirely by voluntary contributions from individuals, businesses, foundations, and governments.
UNICEF’s Office of Emergency Programmes (EMOPS) provides strategic and coordinated support to Country Offices preparing for and responding to humanitarian crises, in accordance with the UNICEF Strategic Plan 2022-2025 and the Core Commitments to Children in Humanitarian Action (CCCs). EMOPS clarifies UNICEF’s role in emergencies and ensures the Organization is prepared to deliver its mandate.
EMOPS Director’s Office oversees production of several corporate products (e.g., the Humanitarian Action for Children appeal, EMOPS end-year summary narrative, the Global Annual Results Report on Humanitarian Action, Executive Board papers on humanitarian action, briefing and strategic notes, and country profiles) which require support writing, editing, copyediting and proofreading per UNICEF’s standards and style.
UNICEF is soliciting proposals from qualified individuals with experience in professional writing, editing and proofreading services to support UNICEF Offices globally. The consultancy will be fully remote.
UNICEF's Office of Emergency Programmes seeks a writer/editor consultant to undertake writing, editing, and reviewing services for several UNICEF humanitarian products. The consultant should be able to write research/technical documents and edit specialized documents on topics in humanitarian action (e.g., emergency preparedness and response; humanitarian access; principled humanitarian assistance and protection for children; accountability to affected populations; humanitarian coordination; and the humanitarian-development nexus). Deliverables include technical materials such as reports, research, strategy documents, case studies, briefing notes, and knowledge products. The consultant will provide editorial support (editing, copy-editing, proofreading) for these products, and will summarize large documents into bite-sized outputs.
The objective is to establish a Long-Term Agreement to facilitate UNICEF hiring of consultants to deliver a comprehensive range of writing and editing services to UNICEF Offices globally. Under the EMOPS Director’s Office, the consultant will undertake one or more of the following tasks: writing, rewriting, and editing EMOPS humanitarian products including the Humanitarian Action for Children appeal, EB papers on UNICEF humanitarian action, EMOPS Summary Narrative (Annual Report), briefing/strategic notes, country profiles, and presentations.
The consultant will perform the listed tasks; exact deliverables will be defined by mutual agreement between UNICEF and the consultant. Responsibilities Of The Consultant include using own equipment, protecting UNICEF content, not placing client content under personal branding, and arranging travel when required.
Technical Evaluation Criteria (with weights) will be used to select candidates for the Long-Term Agreement. Criteria include cover letter, educational qualifications, relevant work experience, work samples, and other sub-criteria with defined scoring. The minimum qualifying score must be met, and only then will financials be opened. The final selection will be based on a technical score and financial offer ratio (e.g., 80:20).
