Job summary

World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO in Geneva seeks a legally proficient professional to provide comprehensive legal research, analysis and drafting support across its Office of the Legal Counsel. You will work on public international law, treaty and contract matters, liaising with multiple sections and partners within the Organization.

Qualifications

• First-level university degree in law
• Advanced university degree in law, preferably with a specialization in public international law, administrative law, or commercial law
• At least three years of relevant professional experience
• Experience in public international law, treaty law, or contract law
• Experience in international organizations
• Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English; ability to work in other UN languages; good French

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and analysis to support the work of all three Sections in public international law, treaty law, administrative law and contract law.
• Assist with treaty-action notifications, updating information, and record maintenance for depository functions.
• Assist in reviewing requests for observer status and prepare admission documents.
• Contribute to resolving issues related to Staff Regulations and Rules and their application.
• Prepare pleadings and other documents for the WIPO Appeal Board and ILO Administrative Tribunal.
• Support annual reporting on matters pertaining to WIPO's administration of justice.
• Review and clear agreements, MOUs and partnerships with governments, IGOs, NGOs and other entities.
• Provide legal advice on IT, data governance, procurement, property management and financial matters.
• Perform other tasks in the area of competence as required.
