Job summary

Cook County School District 130 is seeking a compassionate special education teacher for the K-3 Intensive Communications Program (ICP). You will provide individualized instruction and support for students with disabilities, focusing on academic, functional, social-emotional, and communication development.

You will collaborate with colleagues and service providers to align lessons with IEP goals, monitor progress with data, and adapt instruction.

Qualifications

• Illinois Professional Educator License with LBS I endorsement is required.
• Experience using AAC devices with non-verbal or limited speech students.
• Knowledge of ABA principles to support communication-based behaviors.
• Ability to collect, analyze, and apply student data for instruction.
• Ability to supervise and train paraprofessionals on student protocols.
• Awareness of sensory needs and overstimulation signs.

Responsibilities

• Deliver differentiated, engaging instruction in small groups or one-on-one.
• Develop and monitor IEPs aligned to each student’s needs.
• Use formative/summative data to track progress and adjust lessons.
• Maintain a structured, supportive classroom with routines and behavior supports.
• Utilize instructional technology and alternative materials to boost engagement.
• Collaborate with teachers and related service providers for student success.
• Communicate regularly with families about progress and needs.
• Reflect on practice and use data to improve teaching.
