Zusammenfassung

LS Instruments AG is seeking an Instrument Development Engineer to lead mechanical, thermal, and electronics engineering for scientific instruments. You will work on surface- and space-related projects, contributing to modular instrument development and aerospace-grade documentation.

The role demands independence in a small, cross-disciplinary team, strong SolidWorks skills, and hands-on prototyping. English fluency is required, and a Swiss/EU permit is essential.

Qualifikationen

  • Master’s or PhD in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, physics, optics or a closely related discipline.
  • Proven ability to work independently in a small, cross-disciplinary team.
  • Self-motivated and proactive in completing tasks according to goals.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks for precision mechanical assemblies and mechanism design.
  • Experience with instrument-scale thermal analysis and TEC/Peltier regulation.

Aufgaben

  • Mechanical and optomechanical design of scientific instruments including optical benches and mounts.
  • Thermal analysis and design of temperature control systems with TEC/Peltier regulation.
  • Electronics architecture definition including power distribution and cabling layouts.
  • Prepare system-level documentation and budgets for mass, power, and thermal dissipation.
  • Prototype, test, and iterate hardware in collaboration with optics and software teams.

  • Mechanical and optomechanical design of scientific instruments: optical bench layouts, kinematic mounts, sample positioning mechanisms, structural enclosures
  • Thermal analysis and design of temperature control systems, including thermoelectric (Peltier) regulation for sample environments requiring sub degree stability
  • Electronics architecture definition: power distribution, signal routing, connector and cabling layouts for instruments combining lasers, detectors, and embedded computing
  • Resource budgets (mass, power, thermal dissipation) and technical content for system-level documentation and specifications
  • Prototyping, testing, and design iteration of hardware in close collaboration with the optics and software teams

  • Graduate degree (Master’s or PhD) in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, physics, optics or a closely related discipline

  • Understanding of how optical, mechanical, and electronic sub-systems integrate into a functioning instrument
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Swiss/EU citizenship or valid working permit for Switzerland

  • Hands-on prototyping (3D printing, CNC, soldering, laboratory assembly)
  • Good command of French and/or German
