LS Instruments AG in Freiburg, Switzerland, is expanding its instrument development team and seeks an Instrument Development Engineer to take responsibility for mechanical, thermal, and electronics engineering of scientific instruments, starting with space instrumentation projects and continuing with our commercial products.

You will collaborate with optics and software teams, perform thermal analyses and TEC/Peltier temperature control design, and contribute to system integration of optical,

Qualifikationen

  • Master's or PhD in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, physics or optics.
  • Ability to work independently in a small cross-disciplinary team.
  • Self-motivated and proactive in completing tasks.
  • Proficiency in 3D parametric CAD (SolidWorks) for precision assemblies.
  • Thermal analysis: steady-state and transient modelling for instrument-scale systems.
  • Experience in scientific instrumentation or analytical device development.
  • Understanding of integrating optical, mechanical and electronic subsystems.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Swiss/EU citizenship or valid Swiss working permit.

Jobbeschreibung

  • Mechanical and optomechanical design of scientific instruments: optical bench layouts, kinematic mounts, sample positioning mechanisms, structural enclosures
  • Thermal analysis and design of temperature control systems, including thermoelectric (Peltier) regulation for sample environments requiring sub degree stability
  • Electronics architecture definition: power distribution, signal routing, connector and cabling layouts for instruments combining lasers, detectors, and embedded computing
  • Resource budgets (mass, power, thermal dissipation) and technical content for system-level documentation and specifications
  • Prototyping, testing, and design iteration of hardware in close collaboration with the optics and software teams

  • Graduate degree (Master's or PhD) in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, physics, optics or a closely related discipline

  • Electronics design (power distribution, PCB layout, low-noise signal conditioning)
  • FEM simulation (structural or thermal)

  • Space engineering standards (ECSS) or aerospace qualification processes
  • Hands-on prototyping (3D printing, CNC, soldering, laboratory assembly)
  • Good command of French and/or German

About us

LS Instruments AG, a spin-off from the University of Freiburg, is a technological leader in the field of optical characterization of nanoparticles.
