Summary

Location: Basel, Switzerland
Full time, onsite, #LI-Onsite

The Disease of Aging and Regenerative Medicine group is seeking a dedicated, creative, and skilled cellular imaging data scientist to join our hybrid translational and data science team.

The candidate will have the opportunity to join our dynamic and agile hybrid team, combining wet lab and dry lab work to drive the discovery and validation of therapeutic targets, biomarkers, and new medicines for diseases of aging.

About the Role

You will drive preclinical exploration, validation, and implementation of high-content cellular imaging-based phenotypes, and develop algorithms and pipelines to enable impactful use of complex cellular assays for target identification and validation.

As a member of the Biomedical Research data science community, you will benefit from a global community of over 300 experts with extensive resources in compute, data analysis, data engineering, and AI/ML.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop, validate, and implement image-processing and analysis workflows and algorithms to enable complex cellular assay development, characterization, and readouts.
  • Assess imaging needs of microscopy-based projects and implement novel image and data processing technologies, including generative AI, to design efficient and reusable solutions and pipelines.
  • Communicate results to diverse audiences of computational and experimental scientists, and suggest next steps in experiments and in silico analyses.
  • Work at the interface of high-content imaging and high-resolution molecular data modalities to drive innovative target identification and validation.
  • Serve as an AI/ML and data steward, educating and mentoring colleagues in AI/ML applications for computer vision and biomedical research.

Minimum Requirements: PhD or MS in computer science, biomedical image computing, computational imaging, or a related quantitative field.

Work Experience: Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in industry or academia (e.g., postdoctoral research).

Skills:

  • Strong programming and data analysis skills in Python and R, with experience in deep learning frameworks like PyTorch and TensorFlow.
  • Background in computer vision or computational imaging applied to cellular biology, with demonstrated innovation.
  • Experience with parallel data processing in HPC environments and cloud platforms.
  • Proficiency with image analysis software (e.g., CellProfiler, ImageJ/FIJI, Napari, ilastik, Imaris).
  • Experience in statistical modeling, machine learning, data visualization, and reproducible research.
  • High learning agility and ability to thrive in collaborative, multidisciplinary settings.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience in education and mentoring in data science and AI.
  • Experience analyzing images from various microscopy modalities, including high-content screening, electron microscopy, light-sheet, and confocal microscopy.
  • Drug discovery experience, preferably in target ID and lead finding.
  • Experience with omics data (e.g., spatial transcriptomics) and ML deployment/MLOps.

*Restrictions on working flexibility may apply and can be discussed during the interview.
