Hyperscale Power GmbH in Switzerland is seeking a Grid Systems Engineer to design and develop the medium-voltage grid interconnection for a cutting-edge power conversion system. You will collaborate with Power Electronics, Firmware, and Test teams to ensure grid compliance across multiple markets from prototype to production.

The role requires hands-on prototype work, strong analytical skills, and a background in electrical power systems. Fluency in English is essential; German is a plus.

Qualifikationen

Job Description

Hyperscale Power is building the power backbone for the AI data center era: a complete power conversion chain from 13.8kV–35kV medium-voltage AC down to 800V DC, combining ultra-compact SiC-based AC/DC and DC/DC power blocks. The grid interconnection is where our system meets the utility – getting it right is fundamental to a safe, compliant and reliable product across every market we serve.

As Grid Systems Engineer, you will design and develop the medium-voltage grid interconnection aspects of our power conversion system – from prototype construction and checkout through certification and volume production. You will work closely with the Power Electronics, Firmware and Test & Field teams, and with our external test & certification partners, to ensure our systems meet grid codes and interconnection requirements across our target markets.

It is a unique opportunity to shape the grid interface of a breakthrough power electronics platform from an early stage – with direct visibility to the CTO and engineering leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop the medium-voltage (13.8kV–35kV) grid interconnection system and related electromechanical/electronic equipment; prepare related installation, operation and maintenance specifications and instructions.
• Analyze equipment to establish operating data and conduct experimental tests on grid-interface hardware (transformers, protection, switchgear interfaces) under realistic grid conditions.
• Analyze engineering proposals and technical data to determine the feasibility of new equipment or modifications to existing designs for different grid voltage levels and markets.
• Responsible for prototype construction and checkout of grid-interconnection subsystems, supporting our Prototype and Alpha Customer milestones.
• Compile operational data and prepare customer application information and documentation for grid-tied deployments.
• Ensure compliance with grid codes, interconnection standards and utility requirements (e.g., IEEE 519, IEEE 1547, IEC 61850, UL 1741) and support certification processes together with our test & certification partners (UL, TÜV, IEC 62477).
• Collaborate with the Power Electronics and Firmware teams on protection coordination, fault ride-through, and control strategies for grid-tied operation.
• Respond to customer and partner technical requests regarding grid interconnection requirements as they occur.
• Support scaling of the grid-interface design across different grid codes and markets as we move from Alpha Customer readiness to Production and Volume Readiness.

Qualifications

• BSc / MSc in electrical engineering, power systems engineering or comparable education.
• Experience in medium-voltage grid interconnection, power systems, or utility-scale grid-tied power electronics (e.g. solar/wind/BESS inverters, solid-state transformers) preferred.
• Familiarity with grid codes and interconnection standards (e.g. IEEE 519, IEEE 1547, IEC 61850, IEC 61400, IEC 62933, VDE-AR-N, UL 1741).
• Hands-on experience with prototype build, checkout and test of electromechanical/electronic equipment.
• Strong analytical skills; comfortable designing and running experimental tests, analyzing the resulting data, and documenting the results.
• Team player, comfortable engaging directly with customers and partners on technical requirements.
• Language skills: fluent in English, spoken and written; German language skills helpful, but not mandatory.
• The job will be located at our HQ in Egg b. Zürich in Switzerland. National and international willingness to travel is assumed.
