Job summary

Bank for International Settlements – BIS in Basel invites applications for a Deputy Secretary General to support the Financial Stability Board (FSB) and oversee strategic policy work within the Secretariat. Located in Basel, the role involves cross‑border collaboration, staff leadership, and high‑level engagement with central banks and international authorities.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in economics or finance is required or equivalent professional experience.
• 15+ years of experience in central banks, treasuries, or international financial bodies.
• Deep experience in financial stability policy making at national and international levels.
• Experience with international financial policy dialogue, incl. chairing international groups.
• Extensive experience in managing diverse teams and policy implementation.
• Strong analytical, diplomatic, leadership, and people management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written English; knowledge of another major language is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Assist in directing the work of the Secretariat and manage resources.
• Implement the Secretariat’s strategy as defined by its Chair and Secretary General.
• Lead working groups or task forces and represent the FSB at events.
• Develop and operationalize processes for monitoring financial stability risks.
• Coordinate communication strategies and public dissemination of information.
• Oversee staff and conduct performance and salary reviews.
• Prepare meetings, agendas, background papers, and action follow-ups.
