Job summary

Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is seeking a Counsel for its Legal Services unit in Basel, Switzerland. The role is a 3-year fixed-term contract with relocation support for the successful candidate and dependents.

Qualifications

• Master’s level law qualification; at least 5 years’ experience as an attorney.
• International experience in legal issues relevant to central banks and international institutions.
• Ability to work independently on technically complex files.
• Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent English drafting skills; German/French knowledge advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provides legal advice on the Bank’s legal structures and texts governing the Bank, staff, and operations.
• Defends and settles disputes and litigation involving the Bank; may retain outside counsel.
• Maintains contact with public authorities and international institutions regarding legal matters.
• Participates in committees, conducts legal research on issues of interest to the Bank and central banks.
