Job summary

ETH Zurich's Exoplanets and Habitability Group invites applications for a 2-year fixed-term Postdoctoral Researcher position focused on characterising temperate terrestrial exoplanet atmospheres and searching for signs of life within the LIFE project.

The successful candidate will develop retrievals, atmospheric models, and ML approaches, collaborate with LIFE science and instrument teams, supervise students, and contribute to LIFE science cases and publications.

Qualifications

PhD in astrophysics, planetary science, atmospheric science or a closely related field, completed by the start date.
Experience with atmospheric retrievals and exoplanet atmospheric modelling.
Strong understanding of exoplanet habitability, biosignatures and life-detection concepts.

Responsibilities

Develop and pursue research on characterisation of temperate exoplanet atmospheres and life-detection within LIFE.
Explore atmospheric scenarios beyond Earth analogues and potentially include abiotic alternatives.
Develop retrievals and modelling approaches; apply ML/AI methods as appropriate.
Translate results into LIFE science requirements and instrument performance requirements.
Collaborate with LIFE teams and mentor PhD and undergraduate students.
