Lonza is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to support the design, development, and optimization of electrical systems across its automated manufacturing facilities. You will ensure safe, reliable and energy-efficient electrical infrastructure, while complying with industry regulations and company standards.

Responsibilities include designing low-voltage systems, leading drive technology projects, and creating technical specifications and schematics for new installations and upgrades.

Qualifikationen

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Proven experience designing and implementing electrical systems in industrial environments.
• Strong knowledge of power distribution, motor control, drives, switchgear and UPS.
• Experience managing projects from concept to commissioning and support.
• Familiarity with regulated industries (pharma/biotech) is advantageous.
• Fluent German and English are required.

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will support the design, development, and optimization of electrical systems across Lonza's highly automated manufacturing facilities. Working within multidisciplinary project teams, you will ensure electrical infrastructure is safe, reliable, energy-efficient, and compliant with all applicable industry regulations and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, specify, and implement low-voltage electrical systems for industrial and process manufacturing environments.
• Lead and support projects involving drive technology, variable frequency drives (VFDs), frequency converters, switchgear, UPS systems, electrical heating systems, and pipe trace heating.
• Develop engineering concepts, technical specifications, electrical schematics, and design documentation for new installations and plant upgrades.
• Provide technical expertise throughout project lifecycles, from feasibility studies and detailed design to commissioning and handover.
• Contribute to strategic decisions regarding electrical infrastructure, modernization, and asset lifecycle management.
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, including NIN, ATEX, VKF, and electrical safety requirements.
• Support troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives to maximize plant reliability, operational efficiency, and system performance.
• Identify and implement energy optimization measures that improve sustainability and reduce operating costs.
• Collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, automation, and project teams to deliver safe, effective, and innovative engineering solutions.

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSc/MSc/HF) or qualification as a Federally Certified Electrical Installer, Master Electrician, or Electrical Project Manager (FA).
• Proven experience in the design, planning, and implementation of electrical systems within industrial manufacturing environments.
• Strong knowledge of power distribution, motor control, drive systems, switchgear, UPS systems, and industrial electrical installations.
• Experience managing projects from concept development and engineering design through commissioning and operational support.
• Familiarity with highly regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemicals, or process manufacturing is advantageous.
• Fluent German language skills and English proficiency are required
