Job summary

THEMA Consulting is seeking a Delivery / Functional Consultant (Junior to Senior) to implement MasterFinance at client sites from our Lugano headquarters. You will analyze client requirements, translate them into functional specs, design data mappings and interfaces, and guide testing and go-live alongside our product team.

Ideal candidates combine financial product knowledge with software delivery experience, with fluency in Italian and English; German/French are a strong plus.

Qualifications

• Degree in Economics, Finance, Financial Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or similar field. Master’s in Finance is a strong plus.

THEMA Consulting is a leading solution provider for Treasury, Capital Markets and Risk Management divisions in banks and corporates.

We develop and tailor MasterFinance, a cross-asset front-to-risk-to-accounting platform covering trading, treasury and risk management, collateral management, ALM, derivatives accounting, order and limit management and integration with market and back-office systems. Its flexibility and functional depth have given MasterFinance a distinctive market position.

To support the continued growth of our client base, we are reinforcing our Delivery team at our headquarters in Lugano.

The role

We are looking for a Delivery / Functional Consultant, at Junior or Senior level, to implement MasterFinance at client sites and turn client needs into working software.

As part of a dedicated expert team, you will:

• Analyse client requirements and translate them into functional specifications and platform configuration.
• Design data mappings and interfaces between MasterFinance and market data, trading, settlement and accounting systems.
• Plan and run testing (SIT and UAT), manage defects and support clients through go-live.
• Design, test and validate platform enhancements together with our Product team.
• Act as the functional reference for clients, producing documentation and supporting them after deployment.

What we are looking for

The consultants who succeed with us combine two things: an understanding of financial products and how treasury and capital markets operations run and hands-on experience in analysing, implementing or testing software solutions.

We value both sides equally. Deep financial or quantitative expertise without exposure to software delivery, or strong project and IT experience without knowledge of financial products and risk, is typically not a fit for this role.

What "financial knowledge" means here is understanding how instruments and processes flow through a system: how a trade is captured, valued, risk-managed, settled and accounted for. You do not need to be a model developer or a trader.

Junior Profile (1 to 4 years of experience)

At junior level, the balance can be built with us. You bring a solid base on one side and a clear interest in developing the other.

You have:

• A degree in Economics, Finance, Financial Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a similar field. A Master's in Finance is a strong plus.
• 1 to 4 years of experience in financial services, consulting or financial software, with at least one of the following:
• hands-on work with financial instruments, for example in risk, middle office, back office, treasury or trading support;
• hands-on work in functional analysis, requirements gathering or testing (SIT/UAT) on banking or financial systems.
• A working knowledge of financial products (fixed income, money markets, interest rate and FX derivatives), the trade lifecycle, and basic risk concepts such as P&L, exposures, sensitivities and VaR.
• A good understanding of settlement and accounting processes, or the willingness to build it quickly.
• Comfort with data: SQL queries, Excel modelling, or scripting in Python or VBA.
• The ability to write and interpret functional specifications and integration documents, or clear evidence that you can learn to.
• Fluent Italian and English. German and/or French are a strong plus.
• A strong analytical mindset, initiative, team orientation and flexibility under pressure.

Senior Profile (5 years of experience or more)

At senior level, we need the balance to be already in place: proven experience that combines financial product knowledge with the delivery of software solutions.

You have:

• A degree in Economics, Finance, Financial Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a similar field. A Master's in Finance is a strong plus.
• 5 or more years of experience delivering or changing systems for treasury, capital markets or risk management, as a software vendor, system integrator, consultant, or client-side business analyst or change lead.
• Direct involvement in the full delivery cycle: requirements gathering, functional design, configuration, data migration, testing and go-live.
• Structured knowledge of financial products: fixed income, money markets, interest rate and FX derivatives, and ideally credit, equity and commodity derivatives.
• Practical understanding of how systems support these processes:
• trade capture and lifecycle, order and limit management;
• valuation, pricing and P&L;
• market and credit risk metrics (VaR, sensitivities, exposures);
• liquidity, collateral management and ALM;
• position management, settlement and accounting, including hedge accounting.
• Familiarity with industry-standard operating models in capital markets and treasury.
• Confident use of relational databases and structured data.
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as EMIR, Basel III/IV and IFRS 9 is a plus.
• Experience with project management methodologies, and the ability to lead workstreams and client relationships.
• Excellent communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
• Fluent Italian and English. French and/or German are a strong plus.

Backgrounds that fit well

You may be a strong candidate if you have worked in one of these settings:

• A software vendor for trading, treasury, risk or banking systems, in implementation, functional analysis or support.
• A consultancy or system integrator delivering projects for banks, asset managers or corporate treasuries.
• A bank, asset manager or corporate treasury, in a business analyst, change management or front-to-back system project role.
• A middle-office, back-office or treasury operations team, if you have been closely involved in system changes, testing or data work (junior level).
