CERN is seeking a Data Storage R&D Engineer to join the Tape Archive (CTA) team, managing 1.5 EB of physics data from CERN’s experiments. You will engage in R&D, software development (C++/Linux) and operations, helping optimise data placement and scheduling algorithms.

Applicants should have strong analytical capabilities, experience in C++/Python, Linux, and familiarity with storage technologies. Hybrid work, 40h/week, with a 24-month contract and potential extension are offered.

Qualifikationen

• Background in Mathematics or Computer Science with strong algorithms and optimisation.
• Knowledge of statistics, data modelling and data visualisation, and experience in C++ development.
• Experience with storage technologies or data management is a bonus.
• Tape storage systems and robotic libraries are not expected.

• Analyse metadata and logs to optimise data placement on storage media.
• Research models and propose optimisations to CTA's scheduling algorithms within cost constraints.
• Develop and maintain software in C++/Linux.
• Participate in operations, troubleshooting and support as part of a team.
