About

Amnesty International is an international non-governmental organization committed to a world where human rights are guaranteed for all. It is independent of governments, political parties, ideologies, economic interests, and religions. Its greatest strength lies in the voluntary engagement of over 10 million people across 150 countries.

The Swiss section's secretariat, based in Bern with regional offices in Geneva and Lugano, currently has about 70 staff, interns, and civil servants. Since two years, Amnesty Switzerland operates under a holacratic model.

Position

We are seeking, starting from January 1, 2026, or as agreed, an engaged individual for the role of Co-Executive Director.

Responsibilities

As Co-Executive Director, you will co-lead the Swiss section with the current Director, both operationally and strategically. In a parity job-sharing arrangement, you will share responsibilities before the committee. Working closely with your co-director, you will ensure the implementation of both international and national strategies, as well as compliance with Amnesty standards.

Your main area of responsibility includes operational management, such as:

  • Financial strategy and budget control
  • Prospective HR policy and a healthy organizational culture
  • Change management (evolution of the holacratic model)
  • IT infrastructure and digital tools
Profile

You should have a solid background in business management with proven experience in financial management and HR. Additional expertise in organizational development and IT is an asset.

Experience in strategic leadership or department management, ideally within the nonprofit sector (NGO or foundation), is required.

Excellent language skills in French, German, and English are essential.

Intercultural skills and a leadership approach based on values are important.

Strong strategic analysis skills and excellent communication abilities are necessary.

Resilience, diplomacy, and the ability to collaborate with highly engaged teams and diverse stakeholders are crucial.

Alignment with Amnesty International's values and objectives, with a clear understanding of human rights, justice, and diversity, is expected.

Experience with participative or holacratic management models and job-sharing is preferred.

Swiss nationality or a valid work permit for Switzerland is required. Residency in Switzerland should be established by the start date.

Amnesty International promotes equality, diversity, and inclusion. We encourage applications from individuals of diverse social, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds. What matters most is the ability and willingness to actively contribute to an inclusive organizational culture that is sensitive to discrimination.

Offer

A leadership position with high responsibilities within an international human rights organization.

Significant autonomy in a dynamic and self-organized environment.

Engagement with a committed and professional team.

Flexible working conditions and modern work arrangements.

Competitive employment conditions with excellent social benefits.

International collaboration with high impact.

Location: Bern; remote work possible.
