The FIA invites a seasoned F1 Augmented Reality Project Manager to lead a multi-year safety technology programme from Geneva, with some consideration for London. You will act as technical leader and systems integrator, coordinating suppliers, research partners, Formula 1 teams and FIA stakeholders.

Qualifikationen

F1 Augmented Reality Project Manager (Geneva - Switzerland)

Join the FIA and lead a pioneering safety technology programme.

As F1 Augmented Reality Project Manager within the FIA Technical Department, you will lead a strategic multi-year programme exploring how Augmented Reality and Head-Up Display technologies could enhance driver safety and situational awareness, particularly in conditions of reduced visibility.

You will act as the programme’s technical leader and systems integrator, coordinating specialised suppliers, research partners, Formula 1 teams and internal FIA stakeholders. This is not a traditional project management role. It requires the technical knowledge to challenge engineering proposals, manage integration risks and drive complex technical decisions.

This new permanent, full-time position is based preferably in Geneva. London may also be considered.

MISSIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical programme leadership

• Define and own the multi-year technical roadmap, development phases, milestones and deliverables.
• Structure the programme across key technologies, including helmet and visor displays, optical HUD solutions, sensors, vehicle positioning, data processing and sensor fusion.
• Lead the programme from technology assessment and proof of concept through prototype development, integration and testing.
• Maintain effective governance through risk, dependency, resource and milestone management.

Systems integration and technical coordination

• Act as the technical systems integrator across on-car electronics, sensors, communication systems, data-processing solutions and driver equipment.
• Translate safety and operational objectives into technical requirements, system architectures and validation plans.
• Identify technical dependencies, interface constraints and integration risks across hardware and software systems.
• Ensure that solutions address Formula 1 constraints, including packaging, weight, aerodynamics, cooling, latency, reliability and driver safety.

Supplier and stakeholder management

• Identify and coordinate specialised technology suppliers, engineering partners and research organisations.
• Review and challenge supplier proposals, technical architectures, test results, costs and delivery timelines.
• Build alignment across Formula 1 teams, FIA technical departments, safety specialists and external partners.
• Lead technical workshops, reconcile competing requirements and facilitate pragmatic compromises.

Testing, human factors and risk management

• Coordinate simulation, laboratory evaluation, prototype development and vehicle-based testing.
• Develop validation protocols for individual technologies and integrated solutions.
• Assess human factors, including cognitive workload, visual ergonomics, information prioritisation, latency and emergency driver egress.
• Identify and mitigate technical, safety, financial, intellectual property and programme-delivery risks.

Regulatory and strategic roadmap

• Assess potential implications for FIA Technical, Sporting and Financial Regulations.
• Support the development of regulatory, standardisation and implementation roadmaps.
• Prepare technical trade-off analyses, recommendations and phased implementation scenarios.
• Consolidate technical findings and test results into clear reports for senior leadership and governance bodies.

PROFILE:

• Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Embedded Systems, Avionics, Optronics or a related discipline.
• Minimum 7 to 10 years of relevant engineering and project management experience involving complex electronic, control or safety-critical systems.
• Strong technical knowledge across areas such as vehicle electronics, control systems, sensors, communication systems, sensor fusion, positioning technologies, embedded systems or optical displays.
• Experience in Formula 1, WEC or advanced motorsport would be highly valuable. Relevant experience from aerospace, avionics or advanced automotive engineering is also welcomed.
• Proven experience coordinating complex engineering programmes involving multiple suppliers and interconnected technical workstreams.
• Experience integrating hardware and software components within demanding, high-performance or safety-critical environments.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to reconcile competing technical priorities.
• Experience with HUD technologies, helmet systems, sensor fusion, vehicle positioning or driver‑assistance technologies would be an advantage.
• Full professional proficiency in English.
