Job summary

Empa's Nanomaterials in Health department in St. Gallen invites a motivated specialist to join a multidisciplinary team.

You will help automate complex cell culture processes using robotics, define system specifications and support procurement, and lead the implementation of automated workflows. A Master’s degree in life sciences or engineering and at least 3 years in programming and operating laboratory automation are required, along with knowledge of mammalian cell cultures and Python/R/KNIME;

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in life sciences, engineering, or equivalent education.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in programming and operating laboratory automation and liquid-handling systems, as well as in related quality management.
• Experience in adapting and optimizing cell-based and in vitro assays.
• Knowledge of mammalian cell culture systems and 3D cell cultures (organoids).
• Expertise in software such as R, KNIME or Python.
• Independent, reliable and goal-oriented work style.
• Willing to take on responsibility and learn new tasks independently.
• Open and communicative personality; enjoy multidisciplinary work.
• Fluent in German and English (spoken and written).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to automate complex cell culture processes using robotics
• Conduct needs analyses to define system specifications and functional requirements
• Assist Lab Head in evaluating, comparing and selecting robotic systems and participate in procurement
• Lead implementation of the selected system, including configuration and programming of automated workflows
