Jobbeschreibung

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections, where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come.

Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love.

That’s what makes us Roche.

The Opportunity

You will join Roche’s Institute of Human Biology, an organization within pRED whose goal is to harness and advance the use of human model systems in drug discovery and development, as well as personalized medicine. Our interdisciplinary research bridges academic and pharmaceutical research, connecting biologists, engineers, and data scientists.

We are offering an outstanding opportunity for a dedicated scientist to contribute to our mission to disrupt the traditional drug discovery process. You will be responsible for exploring mechanisms of the mechanical and morphological control of transcriptional and signalling programs that govern organoid development and response to drug treatment. You will work as one of IHB’s principal scientists with the responsibility of mentoring a team of up to 5 postdoctoral fellows and/or graduate students. You will pursue this role in IHB’s open lab environment, where you also will be involved in the supervision of a team of lab technicians. You will coordinate the direction and broader strategy of your research with IHB’s co-director in Computational Biology, but it is expected that you will collaborate broadly and independently with all IHB groups. You will hence benefit from existing IHB know-how and innovative technologies in performing your translational research. You will also be supported by a network of disease-specific experts in pRED and Roche as you explore patient-relevant scientific hypotheses.

  • Independently drive a project in exploring the roles of cell mechanics and morphology as a regulator of organoid biology.
  • Supervise and train a team of postdocs and students as well as lab personnel contributing to your subject of study.
  • Collaborate with experts, including engineers, and computational biologists, within the IHB and pRED to build accurate models of the roles mechanics and morphology play in governing organoid behaviour.
  • Plan, design, implement, and document experiments, analyse data and present results at lab meetings, across the institute, and at scientific meetings.
  • Liaise with other IHB and pRED colleagues active in the field to find alignment and possibilities to collaborate.

Who You Are

You thrive in a dynamic, inclusive environment which gives you full accountability for your own contributions and development. You are resourceful and flexible in problem-solving and working in a collaborative and inclusive manner. Furthermore, you are dedicated to establishing a culture of mutual support, cross-training, continuous learning and self-organization to meet project and functional goals.

  • Ph.D. degree and sophisticated experience in cell and developmental biology with emphasis on cytoskeleton dynamics and regulation. Expertise in cancer biology and/or immunology is desirable. You completed your Ph.D. studies more than 6 years ago.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture (including human cells, ideally 3D models, organoids, and organ-on-a-chip), with a plus for translating findings between human ex-vivo and in vivo mouse models.
  • Profound expertise in advanced live cell microscopy (including light-sheet imaging), single-cell technologies (including transcriptomics), and comprehensive biochemical approaches (including proteomics).
  • Demonstrated mastery of mammalian gene manipulation methods, coupled with a strong publication record illustrating the interplay between cytoskeleton architecture, cell signaling, and gene regulation.
  • Solid understanding of organoid biology, molecular biology, and quantification methods, including coding literacy in Matlab, Python, or R, and the biological interpretation of results.
  • Proven ability to mentor postdocs, graduate students, and lab personnel, complemented by outstanding communication skills, creativity, a strong scientific passion, and effective collaboration within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Exceptional communicator, deeply dedicated to science, and a strong team player with the capacity for independent work, rapid professional network building, effective collaboration, and a keen interest in drug development and medicine, demonstrating strong prioritization skills, a broad vision, and attention to detail.

Who we are

A healthier future drives us to innovate. Together, more than 100’000 employees across the globe are dedicated to advance science, ensuring everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Our efforts result in more than 26 million people treated with our medicines and over 30 billion tests conducted using our Diagnostics products.
