The CAPEX Project Planner is responsible for the development, maintenance, analysis, and reporting of integrated project schedules throughout the lifecycle of major capital investment projects. The role supports project teams by providing accurate planning, forecasting, schedule control, and reporting to ensure successful project execution and delivery.
This position requires extensive experience in large-scale CAPEX projects within the pharmaceutical industry, strong project controls expertise, and advanced proficiency in Primavera P6.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Scheduling
- Develop, maintain, and manage integrated project schedules across all project phases, from concept and design through procurement, construction, commissioning, and start-up.
- Establish baseline schedules and prepare schedule basis documentation for stakeholder review and approval.
- Ensure schedules accurately reflect project scope, milestones, resources, execution strategies, and critical deliverables.
- Support resource planning activities and develop resource-loaded schedules where applicable.
- Integrate schedule inputs from engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams.
Schedule Monitoring & Analysis
- Monitor project progress against approved baseline schedules.
- Identify, analyze, and report schedule variances, delays, and deviations.
- Perform critical path and near-critical path analyses to assess schedule risks and project impacts.
- Develop mitigation and recovery plans to address schedule challenges and maintain project objectives.
- Maintain accurate records of scope changes, trends, risks, and schedule impacts.
Reporting & Stakeholder Management
- Prepare and distribute regular schedule reports, dashboards, trend analyses, and performance metrics.
- Present schedule updates, critical issues, forecasts, and recovery strategies to stakeholders and project leadership.
- Facilitate planning workshops, schedule review meetings, and interactive planning sessions.
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning teams to ensure schedule alignment and transparency.
Schedule Governance & Quality
- Ensure the integrity, quality, and reliability of all project scheduling data.
- Conduct routine schedule reviews and validate project progress and forecast completion dates.
- Apply project controls standards, scheduling best practices, and governance procedures across all assigned projects.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to planning, scheduling, and project controls processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification.
Preferred
- Degree in Engineering, Science, Construction Management, Project Management, or Business Administration.
Professional Experience
- 5-10 years of project planning and scheduling experience supporting major capital projects.
- Proven experience within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, engineering, or related process industries.
- Demonstrated success planning and controlling projects valued at CHF 20 million or greater from design through commissioning and start-up.
- Experience working in EPCM project environments.
- Proven ability to develop and manage integrated project schedules within complex, multidisciplinary organizations.
Essential Industry Experience
- Experience on major CAPEX projects exceeding CHF 300 million.
- Client-side project experience within capital project organizations.
- Strong pharmaceutical industry experience.
- Solid understanding of project controls principles and project execution methodologies.
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Project.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.
- Experience with schedule risk assessments, critical path analysis, and progress measurement methodologies.
- Strong knowledge of forecasting, reporting, change management, and project controls processes.
