Job Description

The Bid/Pursuit Director will collaborate closely with various stakeholders across multiple lines of business to develop winning results and drive business growth.

As a Bid/Pursuit Director you will be the central anchor point to ensure that the strategic deals stay on track, follow an agreed execution bid plan, and ensure that team members stay focused on delivering against the plan. The Bid/Pursuit Director must be comfortable in leading executive level deal reviews and ensure that all parties sponsoring the strategic deal are well informed and briefed on a regular basis. The Bid/Pursuit Director must be able to work with top performing teams and drive a strong highly effective collaborative team to a common mission.

The Bid/Pursuit Director should have proven experience with capture management, bid management, and commercial management disciplines. As a pursuit director you will be able to lead large teams of 25+ people, from the early sales stages of the sales cycle right the way through to closing a deal.

Responsibilities

What you will do

  • Leading a cross-functional pursuit team from the start of pursuit, including with partner organizations, conceptualizing and executing win strategy, competitive analysis strategy, pricing strategy and sales strategy for the pursuit.
  • Briefing senior management team at an appropriate cadence during the pursuit to facilitate strategic decisions and improve win ratio.
  • Facilitating comprehensive pursuit planning workshops and work with the broader team to build strategy, competitive positioning, messaging alignment, and deal scope leading to pursuit plan with organizational buy-in.
  • Ensuring action follow-up from the pursuit planning workshops.
  • Overseeing the development of documents required for review/governance checkpoints and manage pursuit risks and issues.
  • Escalating issues, risks and conflicts that need to be mitigated.
  • Managing communications and performance against process milestones.
  • Provide input into modelling options, deal structuring and deal shaping.
  • Direct contribution of text to proposal documents and presentations, relating to our differentiators/competitive advantages, including original writing where required e.g. executive summaries.
  • Executing the close down process (post pursuit) and hand-offs, including a win/loss review capturing knowledge to support enablement and future pursuits


Required competencies include:

  • Relationship management of senior internal stakeholders and external partners
  • Ability to work at all levels of the organization to achieve a result, in particular strong experience in working with, influencing and challenging senior stakeholders
  • Project management, with a focus on driving action
  • Sales strategy development
  • Outstanding writing, messaging, and overall communications skills.


The role also includes significant hands-on involvement in bid delivery and is not limited to strategy and coaching. The Pursuit Director contributes to the development of bid skills and building of bid self-service capability across the strategic clients group.
