Job summary

Adaptyv in Lausanne, Switzerland is seeking a Lab Automation Intern to join the automation team on-site. You will build and run automated protocols, bring new instruments online, and keep production automation healthy.

This role blends software with hardware and wet-lab work, requiring hands-on bench work and keyboard time. The ideal candidate is pursuing or has completed a Bachelor's or Master's in engineering, robotics, mechatronics, CS, or bioengineering, with strong Python and software

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's or Master's in engineering, robotics, mechatronics, CS, bioengineering, or related field.
• Solid software skills; you write real Python, build drivers, and work with APIs and Git.
• You are a self-starter who takes initiative and follows through on tasks.
• Bonus: experience with PyLabRobot, PyHamilton, Opentrons, or open-source lab automation tools.

Responsibilities

• Build and run automated liquid-handling protocols on robots, using Python and open-source tooling.
• Support operation and maintenance of work-cells and instruments.
• Write software to control hardware and move data through LabOS.
• Reverse-engineer how instruments talk by capturing traffic (e.g. Wireshark) for code integration.
• Run tests on new protocols, record results, and flag anomalies.
• Document protocols, layouts, and fixes for reproducibility.
• Contribute to wiring and layout of new devices in the work cell.
