Job summary

Union Bancaire Privée (UBP) in Zurich, Switzerland, is seeking a WM AI Data Scientist / Engineer to turn complex business problems into practical AI-enabled solutions across onboarding, KYC, and client lifecycle workflows.

You will design and build AI-enabled applications, integrate LLMs into real workflows, and develop backend services and user interfaces, while operating in a regulated banking environment. Occasional travel to Geneva may be required.

Qualifications

• Academic degree in Computer Science or a closely related discipline.
• 3+ years of professional AI, software engineering, or applied AI development.
• Experience building production-quality applications and prototypes.
• Hands-on experience integrating LLMs into applications.
• Experience with backend services and modern architectures.
• Nice to have web-based UI development experience.
• Knowledge of RAG, vector databases, and semantic search is advantageous.
• English fluency; French or German is a plus.
• Ability to translate business problems into technical solutions with product thinking.
• Experience in regulated banking environments is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Turn ambiguous business problems into clear technical solutions.
• Design and build AI-enabled applications from concept through to implementation.
• Integrate Large Language Models into real business workflows using techniques such as RAG, structured prompting, tool use and agentic workflows;
• Build backend services and APIs that connect AI applications with internal systems, data sources and business processes.
• Develop or contribute to user-facing web applications that make AI capabilities simple and intuitive to use.
• Work with structured and unstructured information, including documents, free text, client data and workflow data.
• Build data-processing pipelines that prepare and organise information for AI applications.
• Test solutions with real users, challenge assumptions and improve applications based on feedback.
• Build solutions that are traceable, maintainable and appropriate for a regulated environment.
• Take end-to-end ownership of technical delivery rather than focusing on a single narrow component.
• Explain technical choices, limitations and risks clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
