Jobbeschreibung

Responsibilities

• Management of ship operations and representation towards passengers.
• Administration of ship logs, ensuring seaworthiness and safety of the ship.
• Support the 1st Captain in the safe navigation of the vessel and assume command in their absence.
• Assist in organizing ship operations and ensuring smooth daily procedures.
• Ensure on‑board safety and compliance with all relevant regulations (e.g. inland navigation regulations).
• Promote economical use of resources and implementation of environmental and sustainability measures.
• Organize and coordinate the nautical crew during navigation and port operations.
• Coordinate and supervise maintenance and repair work on deck and below deck.
• Monitor cleanliness, order, and technical condition of the vessel (including gangways, mooring lines, and deck areas).
• Assist in maintaining ship logs and handling administrative duties.
• Contribute to the preparation of shipyard and winter lists.
• Support clearance formalities and collaborate with the shipping company to optimise workflows.
• Foster effective communication among officers and team leaders.
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of workflows and standards.

Qualifications

• Captain’s license (for the Danube or Rhine/from the Dutch border to Basel).
• Boatman’s Booklet and valid medical certificate.
• Several years of experience on the Danube (Passau–Delta) or on the Rhine and its tributaries, including Dutch rivers and delta area.
• Radar observer certificate and advanced fire‑fighting training.
• Qualified Expert for Passenger Ship Navigation (for the Rhine).
• Preferably experience with modern propulsion systems (e.g. Schottel systems).
• Strong teamwork and operational leadership skills.
• Structured, responsible, and solution‑oriented working style.
• Representative and well‑groomed appearance.
• Good German and English language skills, both spoken and written.
