Job summary

A prestigious university in Toronto is seeking a Sessional Instructional Assistant for the course SOC263H5S: Social Inequality. Course description: This course examines the causes, prevalence and manifestations of social, political and economic inequalities, internationally and within Canada. The effects of gender, age, ethnicity-race, among other characteristics, are carefully analyzed in Canada and cross-culturally

Number of positions: 2

Estimated hours per position: 85 hours/each

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1 - April 30, 2026

Rate of pay: $55.25/hr + 4% vacation pay

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Candidates must have at least an MA in Sociology or related field. Must have record of excellence in the subjects covered in the course, demonstrated by referred published research, strong academic record and prior teaching assistantship experience.

Preferred qualification: Preference will be given to applicants with prior teaching assistant experience in the subject area.

Description of duties:

  • Attend most of the lectures (about 6 each)
  • Hold office hours for students on campus (TBD with Instructor)
  • Grade student work inlcuding assignments, final exams, papers, etc.
  • Other duties as needed in consultation with the course instructor.
