What you'll be doing

As a z/OS DB2 Systems Programmer, you will be responsible for providing technical direction and subject matter expertise to ensure stable, reliable environments for complex DB2 Data Sharing initiatives in compliance with established controls, standards and related polices.

You will collaborate with and advise senior leadership of ongoing product upgrades, features, maintenance schedules, and required vulnerability patching requirements for both production and development DB2 environments. You provide technical leadership in reviewing, designing & implementing new DB2 instance as required, adhering to industry best practices. You will be the primary escalation point for DB2 related incidents for end to end problem resolution cycles. You will work closely with our internal technical teams and external vendors to ensure DB2 software instances are running efficiently to meet our business needs. You will mentor junior team members and collaborate with cross functional teams ( Systems Programmers, Operations and App Dev teams ) as required to support our business goals. .

How you'll succeed

  • Technical Expertise – you will leverage your solid technology expertise to review and analyze current client software and requirements to determine the most effective solution to include in business proposals; install, upgrade and customize ISV software tools in a multi-system z/OS mainframe environment, and help to ensure software and hardware remains current to avoid End of Support costs.

  • Effective Communication – You will provide and document problem analysis, resolution, and prevention, designing procedures and best practice techniques, using IBM and ISV online tools for opening and managing problem report tracking and resolution. You will actively participate in periodic disaster recovery exercises, maintaining disaster recovery readiness of systems, and monitoring status of systems to proactively prevent issues from occurring.

  • Relationship Management – You will collaborate with internal business partners in Application Development, Infrastructure, IT Operations, and IT Production Support to accomplish organizational goals that are consistent in supporting both IT and Business objectives. You will work directly with Hardware and Software vendors on solutions, build your network, and deepen existing relationships. You will leverage your verbal, written, and presentation communication skills to build strong partnerships, while influencing participants to mutually beneficial outcomes.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate 5+ years experience of implementing and configuring z/OS DB2 and related software (DB2 Connect, QMF, etc). Configure and maintain DB2 security with RACF. Implement rule based access controls.You have experience with implementing and configuring z/OS DB2 and related software (DB2 Connect, QMF, etc). Configure and maintain DB2 security with RACF. You have exposure to applying SMP/E maintenance (PTFs, APARS, HIPER fixes) and perform periodic DB2 version upgrades. Diagnose and resolve DB2 abends (SQL codes & system failures). Good experience with DB2 utilities (LOAD, REORG, RUNSTATS, COPY) and mainframe storge (VSAM, ICF Catalogs , SMS )

  • You’re a certified professional. You have current accreditation and good standing in IBM Badge/Advanced Certification in Mainframe; Incident, change and problem handling; Participation/contribution to technical projects; and in-depth knowledge and understanding of z/OS and related product software z/OS is preferred.
