Job summary

Boyle Street Community Services is hiring a Youth Worker I for full-time and casual/relief positions in Edmonton, AB. The role supports children and youth aged 2–17, with shifts including evenings, weekends, and some overnights.

The wage is $23.21–$24.27 per hour, with on-site responsibilities and medication administration as needed. Applicants should have a post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field, at least one year of group-home experience, and current First Aid and police checks.

• Minimum 1 year direct experience in group care with children or youth.
• Police check with vulnerable sectors and child/youth checks completed within six months.
• Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a supportive atmosphere and encourage individuality within policies.
• Attend shift exchanges and safety checks; supervise 2–17 year olds.
• Provide individualized care and transport to programs and activities.
• Administer medications to residents as required.
• Document progress notes, logs, and reports in a timely manner.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and agency procedures.

Youth Worker I, Full Time and Casual/Relief

Full Time - Permanent Front Line Edmonton, AB, CA

Salary Range: $23.21 To $24.27 Hourly

Casual/Relief:

Our sites operate 24/7. We are also hiring casual/relief staff to provide coverage for evenings, weekends, and awake overnight shifts as needed.

“ Our Group Living Program provides stability, consistency, and predictability to support children and youth from ages 2-17 in the pursuit of relationship building and permanency. Through collaborations with Children’s Services, Collaborative Service Delivery (CSD) agencies and their social service agency partnerships, we work towards the physical wellbeing, relationship development and preservation of the cultural as well as ethnic diversity of the young people we serve.”

Position Responsibilities

• Maintain a supportive comfortable atmosphere, encourage children and youth in their individuality, while complying with the policies and procedures.
• Attend and participate in shift exchange/ security and safety checks
• Provide individualized care and support for children and youth ages 2-17.
• Transport and provide support for children and youth to attend their day programs, appointments, and recreational activities
• Supervise children and youth in daily routines, in accordance with assigned shift
• Utilize Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) strategies to diffuse potential behavior escalations
• As required, work and provide staffing support at any GLP site.
• Evaluate resident’s behavior through daily contact and monthly goal progress notes
• Ensure log books, reports and documentation is completed timely
• Attend staff meetings and any other meetings or training programs as directed by Management.
• Follow all Agency’s policies, and procedures, code of conduct, shift expectations, and job descriptions
• Communicate with Management any concerns impacting a child or youth’s safety and well-being.
• Administer medications to residents as required.
• Maintain a healthy environment by performing a variety of cleaning and housekeeping duties as required
• Maintain an inventory of supplies
• BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking etc.

Qualifications

• Post Secondary Degree or Diploma in a relevant field of study( child and youth care, social work...)
• Minimum 1-year direct experience working in a group home with children or youth
• Knowledge of standard policies and practices related to group care and the ability to effectively implement daily operations as per shift requirements.
• Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector and Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months
• Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course
