Job summary

CMHA Kelowna & District is hiring a part-time Youth Supportive Housing Worker for the Bright Mindz Program, 16 hours per week. Schedule is Saturday and Sunday, 3:30pm – 11:30pm, with responsibilities focused on housing stability and youth support.

The role involves planning individualized support, life skills coaching, and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team to link clients to health referrals, income supports, and community resources. Prior experience with trauma-informed care is valued.

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent education.
• Criminal Records Check Clearance in the vulnerable sector is required.
• Diploma in Community Social Service considered an asset.
• Understanding of working with a Trauma Informed lens.
• Ability to work with trauma, homelessness, mental health challenges.
• Certificates in First Aid/CPR, Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, Naloxone and Food Safe are assets.
• Experience working with youth facing homelessness, mental illness or addictions is an asset.
• Experience with the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) is an asset.
• Ability to build trusting relationships with youth and maintain professional boundaries.
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess client needs.

Responsibilities

• Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with housing, health, and social service professionals.
• Create and implement individualized support plans aimed at housing stability for each participant.
• Provide life skills training such as cooking, housekeeping and personal self-management.
• Connect clients to income supports and advocate with relevant agencies.
• Liaise with community agencies and businesses to meet program needs and share information.
• Provide accurate information and referrals regarding community resources.
• Apply ethical, efficient, and therapeutic crisis intervention.
• Ensure client safety following established protocols.
• Maintain accurate case files, notes, and daily statistics of client interactions.
• Prepare referral letters and update information to assist other agencies.
• Ensure compliance with program policies, including tenant guest policies.

WHOIS A YOUTH SUPPORTIVE HOUSING WORKER?

The Youth Supportive HousingWorker (YSHW) in the Bright Mindz Program is dedicated to supporting youngindividuals who are housed in a specialized youth floor at a market housingbuilding. This position focuses on assisting program participants who haveexperienced homelessness or are at risk of homelessness, promoting housingstability and enhancing quality of life. The YSHW collaborates with amultidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized support plansencompassing health referrals, social connections, life skills, and educationaland employment support.

WHATDOES A YOUTH SUPPORTIVE HOUSING WORKER DO?

• Fosterand maintain collaborative relationships with housing, health, and socialservice professionals to address clients’ needs effectively

• Provideaccurate information and appropriate referrals to clients regarding communityresources
• Employan ethical, efficient, and therapeutic approach to crisis intervention in atimely manner
• Ensurethe safety of clients in potentially dangerous situations, followingestablished protocols
• Maintainaccurate case files, notes, and daily statistics regarding client interactionsand program activities
• Preparereferral letters and manage information updates to assist other agencies
• Ensurecompliance with program policies, including monitoring tenant guest policies
• Performsother related duties as assigned

YOURSTRENGTHS & EXPERIENCE:

• MinimumGrade 12 or equivalent education required

• Abilityto be regularly exposed to individuals who are struggling with and/orrecovering from trauma, drug/alcohol use, homelessness, mental healthchallenges and/or mental illness
• Certificatesin First Aid/CPR, Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, Naloxone and Food Safe are considered an asset
• Experienceworking with youth, particularly those facing homelessness, mental illness, and/oraddictions is considered an asset
