Job summary

New Westminster Schools is seeking a part-time Child and Youth Care Worker to support students’ educational programs through supervision of activities in schools and the community, in collaboration with families. The role involves assisting teachers with students needing support for behavior and mental health, and requires coordinating with school-based teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Child and Youth Care Counselling or equivalent.
• 2–3 years of full-time experience with at-risk students.
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training.
• Knowledge of social skills curricula and family dynamics, including child abuse and family violence.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to provide counselling referrals.

Responsibilities

• Supervise student activities in school, community and with families.
• Assist teachers with students with challenging behavior and mental health conditions.
• Provide crisis intervention, outreach, supervision and family support.
• Participate in IEP meetings.
• Maintain communication with counselors, teachers and principals.
• Assist integrated case management and related reporting.
• Seek guidance from principal or counselor when needed.
• Other related duties as required.
