Job summary

The Abbotsford School District is seeking a Youth Care Worker to support students requiring behavioural assistance, under the direction of the Principal or designate. You will work with a counselor to promote social and emotional development and collaborate with teachers and school staff.

Responsibilities include developing IEPs and Safety Plans, crisis intervention, data collection, and coordinating with community agencies.

Qualifications

• Two years of recent experience with at-risk children or youth.
• Grade 12 diploma plus two-year post-secondary diploma (Social Services or related).
• Current CPI (Crisis Prevention & Intervention) certification.
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office and internet-based programs.

Responsibilities

• Assist in creating student IEPs and Safety Plans.
• Provide crisis intervention and escalate as needed in classrooms and playgrounds.
• Determine intervention strategies with counselor through data collection and collaboration.
• Refer students to external agencies when appropriate via counselor guidance.
• Support students with self-regulation, anger management, anxiety, social skills and life skills.
• Participate in school teams and parent/teacher meetings to plan support.
• Document interventions and track progress for reports to the school team.
• Liaise with community agencies and visit homes as required.
