Job summary

YMCA of Greater Toronto is seeking a Sports Specialist to lead child, youth, and family programs and adult sports. You will oversee leagues, tournaments, clinics, and instructional programs, promoting active living and community engagement while upholding YMCA standards.

You will coach participants, mentor staff and volunteers, and collaborate with community partners to expand participation. A commitment to safety and belonging is essential for this role.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Recreation Leadership, kinesiology, or equivalent experience preferred.
• Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification OR Intermediate First Aid and CPR Level C certification required before first day of work.
• Sports Coach Certification strongly preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of experience coaching children in a sports setting.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with members, staff and volunteers.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct program leadership to Child, Youth, Family programs and Adult Recreational Sports.
• Lead YMCA Leagues, ensuring quality indicators are met.
• Act as Service Leader as part of Centre's senior staff team.
• Coach and develop participants and teams for growth and success.
• Build relationships with members and share YMCA story to educate about the charity.
• Manage program area space allocation for each group.
• Assist with scheduling and logistics of adult sports and youth programs.
• Support long-term and short-term goals aligned with strategic plan.
• Foster positive relationships with children, parents, staff and volunteers.
• Ensure child safety procedures and YMCA standards are followed at all times.
