Job summary

Biigtigong Nishnaabeg is seeking Youth Recreation Assistants to create fun, inclusive recreation opportunities for children and youth this fall and winter. Under supervision, you will help develop engaging activities and lead programs that build confidence and skills in a positive community setting.

Ideal candidates are energetic, creative, dependable and passionate about helping young people stay active. Positions are for youth aged 15–19 with evening and weekend shifts expected.

Qualifications

• Excellent oral communication and writing skills.
• Good organizational and conflict resolution skills.
• Reliable, patient and able to work effectively as part of a team.
• Willingness and ability to frequently perform active work inside and outdoors.
• Must have a fun, energetic, and outgoing personality.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support engaging evening recreation and youth sports programs.
• Create fun, inclusive activities that encourage healthy, active living and participation.
• Plan and deliver age-appropriate games, sports, activities and recreational programs.
• Build positive relationships with children and youth while serving as a role model.
• Assist with planning and delivery of sports activities, cultural events, community gatherings and Social Services department initiatives.
• Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, and positive social interaction.
• Assist with program setup, cleanup, equipment organizing, and maintaining safe spaces.
• Perform other recreation related duties as required.
