Job summary

Ndinawemaaganag Endaawaad Inc. is seeking a Youth Care/Support Worker to supervise and mentor Indigenous youth in a community setting in Manitoba. The role emphasizes trauma-informed care, safety, and supportive programming to develop independent living skills.

The incumbent will work Friday to Monday, with day/evening/overnight shifts, and must complete required checks (criminal record, child abuse registry) and hold CPR/First Aid certification. Preference given to Indigenous applicants.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Child and Youth Care preferred.
• Experience in Indigenous community setting with cultural-based services.
• Trauma-informed approach for urban Indigenous youth at risk or with involvement with child welfare.
• Ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with professionalism.
• Strong assessment, relationship-building, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Community work with youth addressing wellness, housing, education, and safety.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision and ensure a safe environment for youth.
• Act as a positive role model and mentor to help youth develop independent living skills.
• Provide information, referrals, and advocate for youth.
• Maintain a safe, healthy, and clean environment for all participants.
• Maintain a clean working space.
• Ensure documentation such as logbooks, MAR forms, incident reports and other required records.

Position: Youth Care/ Support Worker

Salary: $20.40 per hour + $1.00 per hour shift premium for all overnight hours (12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.)

Days of Work: Friday to Monday

Classification: Full Time – 80 Hours Bi-weekly

Hours of Work

Days – 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Evenings – 3:45 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

Overnights – 11:45 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.

Reports To: Site Manager

Closing Date: Open until filled

Specific Accountability:

• Providesupervision and ensure a safe environment for youth.
• Actas a positive role model and provide mentorship to support youth in thedevelopmentof independent living skills.
• Provideresource information, complete referrals, and act as an advocate for youthupon request.
• Ensurea safe, healthy, and clean environment for all youthparticipants.
• Maintainclean working environment and space.
• Ensureappropriate documentation as required. This includes logbook entries, MARforms, incident reports,and all other documentation as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

• Acombination of appropriate education and employment history;post-secondary in the Child and Youth Care field is preferred.
• Experienceworking in an Indigenous community setting with knowledge ofcultural-based services.
• Demonstratedunderstanding of a trauma informed approach in working with urbanIndigenous youth with particular emphasis on youth with chronicinvolvement with the child welfare system, at risk for or experiencinghomelessness and at risk for and or experiencing exploitation.
• Capacityto manage sensitive and confidential situations withprofessionalism.
• Effectiveassessment, relationship building, problem solving, and organizationalskills.
• Communitywork experience with youth to improve wellness, coping skills, andempowerment in the following areas: poverty, housing, legal, socialassistance, education, family violence, substance use, crisisintervention, mental health, colonization.
• Abilityto work in a team environment and independently withoutprompting.
• Provenability to work in a changing work environment.
• Understandingand capacity to work within a harm reduction and trauma informedframework.
• Proficient computer skills: MS Word, Excel, Internet, E-mail.
• Subject to Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check and Prior Contact Check.
• Valid Class 5 Drivers License.
• Valid Level C CPR/1st Aid - this is required prior to starting employment.

Ndinawe requires a satisfactory criminal record check(including vulnerable sector search), child abuse registry check, priorcontact check and Level C CPR/1st Aid prior to the commencement of employment.
