Job summary

Castle Downs Family YMCA is seeking a Supervisor to lead child and youth programs, supervise staff and volunteers, and ensure safe, inclusive, high‑quality experiences for members. You will plan sessions, manage registrations, and contribute to association-wide initiatives while supporting budget and training needs.

The role requires 1+ year leadership experience in recreation or camps, strong communication, and the ability to work varied hours including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Post-Secondary Education in Recreation, Early Child Development, Education or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 1-year experience in leadership role within recreation, youth services or camp programming.
• Experience working with children and youth, preferably in a leadership role.
• NCCP FMS is considered an asset.
• HIGH Five Certification is considered an asset.
• Intermediate (Standard) First Aid & CPR-C is required.
• Able to obtain a Police Information Check and Vulnerable sector check.
• Flexible work schedule – including days, evenings, weekends and stat holidays.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Strong computer skills with Office 365 word, excel and other applications an asset.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, hire, train, coach, supervise and support all full-time and part-time staff and volunteers within the Child and Youth and Day Camp program areas.
• Lead onboarding processes and ongoing training for staff and volunteers, including planning and facilitating quarterly in-services and contributing to annual day camp training for coordinators and counsellors.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date certification tracking and performance documentation for all staff and volunteers.
• Develop and manage staff and volunteers' schedules ensuring sufficient coverage, proactive coverage planning and compliance with YMCA ratios.
• Develop sessional program schedules that offer programs for all ages of child and youth members, include a variety of program times and options that align with association-wide priorities and branch-specific targets.
• Oversee daily program operations: monitor program registration, track attendance and manage waitlists and cancellations.
• Actively supervise program delivery to ensure alignment with YMCA Service that Shines standards and principles of Healthy Child Development and Positive Youth Development.
• Participate in association wide day camp development and programming including training, scheduling, and other duties as assigned by the task group.
• Manage within an approved budget for programs, deal with suppliers for equipment and products, submit expenses to accounting within the month of accruing the expense.
• Contribute to branch Duty Manager shifts on a weekly basis.
• Acts as a backup instructor when required.

About the Role:

The Supervisor provides direct leadership and support to staff and volunteers, ensuring high-quality program experiences, and maintains a strong focus on member/participant satisfaction. In addition to branch-level responsibilities, the Supervisor actively contributes to association-wide initiatives by participating in task group meetings and supporting collaborative planning and program development. The Supervisor is accountable for the successful delivery of child and youth programs, ensuring they are safe, inclusive and developmentally appropriate.

Responsibilities:
