Job summary

Knowles Centre Inc. is seeking a dedicated Youth Care Worker to support children, adolescents, and families in Manitoba. You will provide safety checks, assist with daily routines, meals, hygiene, and coordinate medical attention as needed in a supportive team environment.

Youth-focused care, crisis support training, and collaboration with staff to implement treatment plans are essential. Applicants must meet education requirements and pass background checks.

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 12 or diploma/degree in Child Youth Care, Addictions and Community Service, Family Support, Community Development, Social Work, or related programs.
• Experience working with youth ages 12-17.
• Respectful of cultural diversity and Indigenous history.
• Excellent interpersonal and supportive counselling skills.
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
• Background checks including Child and Adult Abuse Registry and Criminal Reference checks required.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the care and supervision of Healing Homes youth including safety checks.
• Attend to care needs: clothing, hygiene, diet, health, sleep, and school attendance.
• Prepare meals and snacks.
• Administer medication per procedures.
• Support youth needing medical attention and hospital visits.
• Assist with community transport for unapproved absences.
• Maintain living environment, cleanliness, and hygiene.
• Follow crisis response and safety plans; apply training to manage crises.
• Model appropriate adult behaviors and respectful language.
• Identify need for behavioral intervention and apply strategies.
• Implement treatment requirements per clinical/house plans.
• Assess client strengths and needs; provide accurate daily reports.
• Support clients in achieving treatment goals.

DUTIES

• Responsible for the care and supervision of all Healing Homes youth including providing regular safety checks
• Attend to the care and needs of youth e.g. clothing, hygiene, diet, general health, support sleep hygiene, support school attendance
• Preparation of meals and snacks
• Administer medication according to documented procedures
• Support youth requiring medical attention e.g. attending hospital
• Pick up youth from unapproved absences in community (refer to procedure)
• Maintain the living environment in line with Knowles Centre expectations and standards, including cleaning and hygiene tasks
• Knowledge and adherence to individual crisis response plans and safety plans. Support youth and other staff in dealing with a crisis using strategies learned from relevant training, prior experience, and by adhering to Knowles Centre policies, procedures, and Provincial Licensing Standards
• Model appropriate adult behaviors with an emphasis on appropriate dress, grooming, language, respect, empathy, and fairness
• Identify the need for behavioral intervention and apply the appropriate strategies
• Implement treatment requirements as indicated in the clinical and house-specific treatment plan
• Assess client strengths, areas for development, and individual needs
• Provide accurate evaluations and reports for daily records and conferences, following Knowles' formats and standards
• Support clients in achieving goals outlined in treatment plans

Qualifications:

• Minimum Gr.12, or diploma/degree in Child Youth Care, Addictions and Community Service, Family Support, Community Development, Social Work etc. Other related programs will be considered
• Experience working with youth ages 12-17
• Respectful of cultural diversity
• Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous History, culture, practices, customs and beliefs
• Excellent and proven interpersonal and supportive counselling skills
• Experience working with youth facing behavioral and emotional challenges
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment
• First Aid/CPR would be an asset, or training can be arranged upon hire
• Successful applicants will be subject to provide Child and Adult Abuse Registry and Criminal Reference checks
• Prior Contact Checks will be completed by Knowles Centre
