Job summary

YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth is seeking a Part-Time Facility Staff for John W Lindsay YMCA and Community Y. The role focuses on keeping the facility clean, safe, and welcoming for members, guests, and staff, with duties both indoors and outdoors and flexible hours including weekends.

The position requires reliability, attention to detail, and a commitment to health and wellness. Compensation starts at $16.75 per hour, with YMCA member benefits and home fitness access as part of the package.

Qualifications

• Previous cleaning or janitorial experience preferred.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to cleanliness and safety.
• Ability to lift and move cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including overnights, weekends, and holidays.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safe handling is a plus.
• Ability to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods.
• Irregular hours flexibility is required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver the Y way quality standards with welcoming, inclusive service and a clean environment.
• Clean all areas inside and outside the building: gym, locker rooms, offices, hallways, and common areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and disinfect high-touch surfaces; restrooms stocked with supplies.
• Perform basic maintenance such as changing bulbs and addressing minor leaks; report major issues.
• Clear sidewalks, entryways, and parking areas; remove snow/ice in winter.
• Follow health and safety guidelines and YMCA policies; use cleaning chemicals safely.
• Assist with special cleaning projects and collaborate with teammates.
• Other duties as assigned.
