Job summary

J.D. Irving, Limited is seeking a Yard Associate to maintain cleanliness, safety, and readiness of company yards, facilities, equipment, and inventory across our locations in Eastern Canada.

You will conduct daily inspections, coordinate maintenance, manage assets, assist drivers with equipment movements, and provide after-hours support as required. The role requires a high school diploma, a valid Class 1 license, and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Class 1 driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• 1–3 years of yard/warehouse/transport or maintenance experience preferred.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and provide after-hours/on-call support.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather.
• Ability to travel between yard locations when required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and security of company yard locations.
• Conduct daily inspections and checks of assigned yards and facilities.
• Coordinate debris removal, yard maintenance, and repair requests with internal and external partners.
• Manage and track company assets, including equipment relocation and preventative maintenance requirements.
• Support drivers during equipment pickups, drop-offs, and tractor movements.
• Monitor and replenish office and operational supplies regularly.
• Act as the primary contact for gate access and yard-related issues.
• Provide on-call assistance outside of regular working hours when required.
• Assist with maintenance and upkeep of company buildings, grounds, and property.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
