Job summary

J.D. Irving, Limited is seeking a Yard Associate to maintain cleanliness, safety, and readiness of yards, facilities, equipment, and inventory. You will perform inspections, coordinate maintenance, assist drivers, and act as gate contact.

This role requires a high school diploma and a valid Class 1 license, with 1-3 years in yard/warehouse roles preferred. You should be physically capable, able to work outdoors in all weather, and willing to be on-call as needed.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class 1 driver's license required; must maintain a satisfactory driving record.
  • 1-3 years of yard/warehouse/transportation/maintenance experience preferred.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and provide after-hours/on-call support as required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Capability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

  • Conduct daily inspections of yards and facilities.
  • Coordinate debris removal and repair requests with partners.
  • Manage and track assets, including relocation and maintenance.
  • Support drivers during equipment pickups, drop-offs, and movements.
  • Monitor and replenish office and operational supplies.
  • Act as primary contact for gate access and yard issues.
  • Provide on-call assistance outside regular hours.
  • Assist with maintenance of buildings and grounds.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Job description

The Yard Associate is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of company yards, facilities, equipment, and inventory.

The role includes conducting daily yard inspections, coordinating maintenance activities, managing assets, supporting drivers with equipment movements, maintaining supplies, and assisting with general facility upkeep and support with shunting. The Yard Associate also serves as a key contact for yard-related issues and provides after-hours support as required.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and security of company yard locations.
  • Conduct daily inspections and checks of assigned yards and facilities.
  • Coordinate debris removal, yard maintenance, and repair requests with internal and external partners.
  • Manage and track company assets, including equipment relocation and preventative maintenance requirements.
  • Support drivers during equipment pickups, drop-offs, and tractor movements.
  • Monitor and replenish office and operational supplies on a regular basis.
  • Act as the primary contact for gate access and yard-related operational issues.
  • Provide on-call assistance outside of regular working hours when required.
